Winter Weather Message:

Dear Congregation,

Because of the winter road conditions and extreme cold, the Administrative Committee of Session and I have decided it is best not to hold worship at church tomorrow and instead encourage people to stay safe and warm at home. Of course, we can all still worship from our homes! In case you would find it helpful, I am offering below a short devotional exercise using Bible passages from what would have been our service for tomorrow. However you spend Sunday, remember that in all that we do God’s love abides and guides.

--In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Peg

A SHORT DEVOTIONAL FOR SUNDAY, JAN. 24, 2026

Prayer of Preparation:
Lord, quiet my restless spirit
that I may rest in the peace and truth
of the word you have for me today.

Read: Matthew 5: 1 – 5

Prayer: Go, our deliverer, you walk with the meek and the poor, the compassionate
and those who mourn. When I am weak, dispirited and feel downtrodden, be my
strength and lift me up. When I would be harsh to those who are poor and hurting,
turn me away from that path that I might show your compassion.

Read: Matthew 5: 6 – 11

Prayer: Lord, I praise your righteousness and give thanks for your mercy. Give me a
thirst for righteousness, grant me perseverance in striving for peace among all your
children, and mold my will to show your mercy in all that I do.

Read: Micah 6: 1 – 8

Prayer: Lord, you call us, individually and as your church, to seek justice, love
kindness, and walk humbly with you. May we so learn to follow this call that we
know the blessing of your rule in our lives and help our hurting world find the
blessing of your peace. Amen.

Take the Sermon-Preparation Challenge!

On these upcoming four weeks before Lent (which begins with Ash Wed. Feb. 18 th ), Pastor Peg
will be preaching on passages from Jesus’ “Sermon on the Mount” in the Gospel of Matthew.
She will preach on select verses each Sunday, but any subset of verses makes the most sense
in the context of the whole. Pastor Peg encourages us to make the Sermon on the Mount, as
found in Matthew Chapters 5 - 7, part of our daily home devotions during the next four weeks.

Youth Half-Day Retreat: TODAY, after Worship
For our youth ages 12-18, feel free to invite your friends. After a pizza lunch at the church
following worship on Jan. 25 th , we will carpool up to Mt. Petit Jean. There, we will take a hike,
weather permitting, and end the day in the warmth of the Davies’ Cabin with a fireside chat
about things the youth would like to do in the coming year. Members of the Christian
Education Committee and Pastor Peg are leading this retreat, assisted by some of our young
adults.

Jan. 31 8:30 – Noon Session Retreat at the Church.
